Welsh Adjectives

Learning the Welsh Adjectives displayed below is vital to the language. Welsh Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.

Grammar Tips:

While in English an adjective doesn’t change when the noun changes, in Welsh an adjective sometimes agrees in gender and number with the noun. For example:

a)    Masculine to feminine example: Mab byr (Short son ) becomes: Merch fer (Short daughter).

As you can see from the example above, the adjective comes after the noun and also takes the feminine form.

b)    Singular to plural example:

Dyma fy nghar coch (this is my red car) becomes: Dyma fy ngheir cochion (these are my red cars).

As you can see from the example above, the adjective comes after the noun and also takes the plural form.

·         Please note that the plural forms of adjectives and to some extent the feminine forms are becoming obsolete.
