Malagasy Negation

Learning the Malagasy Negation is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Malagasy language. But first we need to know what the role of Negation is in the structure of the grammar in Malagasy.

Malagasy negation is the process that turns an affirmative statement (I am happy) into its opposite denial (I am not happy).

Grammar Tips:

In Malagasy, negation can be made simply by placing "Tsy" before the main verb. But sometimes a double negative is required. "Tsia" is the most common negative.

Tsy afaka manao an’ity aho (I can't do this). 

Tsy manan-katao izy ireo (they don't have anything to do – Double Negative). 

Tsy tiako ity (I don't like it)
