Belarusian Feminine

Learning the Belarusian Feminine is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Belarusian language. But first we need to know what the role of Feminine is in the structure of the grammar in Belarusian.

Belarusian feminine refers to female qualities attributed specifically to women and girls or things considered feminine. The complement to feminine is masculine.

Grammar Tips:

To form a feminine word from the masculine in Belarusian, you add feminine suffixes to the nouns. Here are some examples:

Студэнт student, m. – студэнтка student, f.

Настаунiк teacher, m. – настаунiца teacher, f.

Пiянiст pianist ,m. – пiянiстка pianist, f.

Note that most words cannot change into feminine; instead a whole new word should be used, example: мужчына (man), жанчына (woman).
