Bengali Adjectives
Learning the Bengali Adjectives is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Bengali language. But first we need to know what the role of Adjectives is in the structure of the grammar in Bengali.
Bengali Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.
Grammar Tips:
While in English an adjective doesn’t change
when the noun changes, in Bengali an adjective sometimes agree in gender with the noun. For
example:
a) Masculine to feminine example: (non-agreement)
Eti amaar chhoto chhele (this is my little
son) becomes: eti amaar chhoto meye (this is my little daughter)
As you can see from the example above, the
adjective comes after the noun and also takes the feminine
form.
b) Masculine to feminine example: (agreement)
Sundar purushh (good looking man) becomes: sundari
naari (beautiful woman).
Buddhimaan chhele (intelligent boy) becomes
buddhimoti meye (intelligent girl)
As you can see from the example above, the
adjective comes before the noun and also takes the feminine
form.
