Russian Adjectives

Learning the Russian Adjectives is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Russian language. But first we need to know what the role of Adjectives is in the structure of the grammar in Russian.

Russian Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.

Grammar Tips:

In singular form:

Adjectives of masculine gender have flexions (-ой/-ый/-ий)

Adjectives of feminine gender have flexions (-ая/-яя)

Adjectives of neutral gender have flexions (-ое/-ее)

To form the plural of adjectives, we change their flexions to (-ые/-ие)

Новыйноваяновоеновые (new – masculine, feminine, neutral, plural)

Большой – большая – большое – большие (big)

Последний – последняя – последнее – последние (last)

Русский – русская – русское – русские (Russian)

Хороший – хорошая – хорошее – хорошие (good)

While in English an adjective doesn’t change when the noun changes, in Russian an adjective should agree in gender and number with the noun. For example:

Новый костюм – новая куртка – новое пальто – новые ботинки

Большой дом – большая деревня – большое село – большие неприятности

Последний поезд – последняя электричка – последнее сообщение – последние известия
