Turkish Articles

Learning the Turkish Articles displayed below is vital to the language. Turkish articles are words that combine with a noun to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun. Generally articles specify the grammatical definiteness of the noun. Examples are "the, a, and an".

Grammar Tips:

Unlike English there is only one kind of article in Turkish which can be called an indefinite article.

In Turkish “bir” is used as an indefinite article like “a or an”  See the examples:

“Sınavdan sadece bir öğrenci geçebildi” means Only one student could pass the exam.

Here “bir” is not used as an indefinite article. It expresses the number of the students who could pass the exam.

“Bir öğrenci daima derslerine çalışmalıdır.” means A student should always study his / her lessons.

Here “bir” is an indefinite article because it expresses any student.
