The Oromo comprise the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, approximately 50% - 60%. Oromoffa is spoken predominantely in Oromo Region, SouthWest and Central Ethiopia.. The language was preserved through oral tradition until the early 1970s. It was then given official status and the latin script as opposed to the Ethiopic script was adopted.
