Learning the Latvian Plural displayed below is vital to the language. Latvian Plurals are grammatical numbers, typically referring to more than one of the referent in the real world. In the English language, singular and plural are the only grammatical numbers.
While in English, the plural is formed by adding (-s) to the singular, in Latvian to form the plural of nouns and adjectives we add (-s) to feminine nouns ending in a vowel and (-i) to masculine nouns ending in a consonant (–s) removing the last consonant. The same rule applies for the adjectives. Here are some examples:
Draugs (a friend) becomes: Draugi (friends)
Sieviete (one woman) becomes: Sievietes (some women)
Laiva (boat) becomes: Boats (laivas)
Šī ir mana sarkanā automašīna (this is my red car) becomes: Šīs ir manas sarkanās automašīnas (these are my red cars)
