Filipino Pronouns
Learning the Filipino Pronouns is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you practice the subject, the closer you get to mastering the Filipino language. But first we need to know what the role of Pronouns is in the structure of the grammar in Filipino.
Filipino pronouns include personal pronouns (refer to the persons speaking, the persons spoken to, or the persons or things spoken about), indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns (connect parts of sentences) and reciprocal or reflexive pronouns (in which the object of a verb is being acted on by verb's subject).
In Tagalog there are three sorts of pronouns, the ANG pronouns,
the Ng (pronounced nang) pronouns and the Sa pronouns. The first group
corresponds with the English pronouns I, you, he etc.
ANG is called a focus marker, it marks the subject, or the actor of a
sentence, since he, she or it is in the focus of conversation.
Saan ka pupunta? Where are you going (used the same way as
the English phrase “How are you?”)
Ako mabuti. I am fine.
NG pronounced nang is called the out of focus marker and it usually
describes the object or the one or theme talked about.
Hindi ko alam. I don’t know
Nasaan aklatmo where is your book
Sa is a direction or place marker also it introduces the beneficiary
of an action.
Nasa akin ang libro mo. Your book is with me.
Nakatira ako sa kanila. I am staying with the
place.
Binili ko ang bulaklak para sa iyo. I bought flowers for
you.
