Chinese Adverbs

Learning the Chinese Adverbs displayed below is vital to the language. Chinese adverbs are part of speech. Generally they're words that modify any part of language other than a noun. Adverbs can modify verbs, adjectives (including numbers), clauses, sentences and other adverbs.

Adverbs also use de but then an other one placed behind the verb or yet an other de in an other construction. Lilke: 他流利地说英文 tā liú lì shuō de yīng wén or 他说英文说得很流利tā tā shuō yīng wén shuō de hěn liú lì. The first is before the noun, the latter after. Here are some examples:

Grammar Tips:

While in English adverbs are usually formed by adding (-ly) to adjectives. In Mandarin many adverbs are formed from adjectives, simply by adding the suffix  DE to adjectives.

Examples:

Man (slow) becomes man de (slowly)

Kuai (quick) becomes kuai de (quickly)

However that’s not always the case. Some words are adverbs by nature,  For example , xian zai  (now)
